Five Steps for Financial Freedom

Experienced Bankruptcy Counsel in Minnesota

Even before bankruptcy is cleared from your record, you may see your credit rating improving. Lenders examine an individual's debt-to-income ratio when they decide whether to offer credit. After you successfully complete bankruptcy, your debt-to-income ratio will be much better than it was prior to the filing.

Taking control of your finances does not have to be a complicated process. Following a few guidelines can prevent additional problems from occurring. For help filing bankruptcy or deciding if it is the right option for you, please call Prescott Pearson & Tande, PA, at 651-968-8096 or 888-366-0827 to schedule a free consultation.

Moving Forward With Your Finances

There are things you can do during and after bankruptcy that can help you keep your finances on track, including:

  1. Making all of your payments in full and on time
  2. Starting a savings account
  3. Monitoring your credit report
  4. Getting a secured credit card or loan with the lowest rate possible
  5. Making a budget and living within your means

An additional step you can take is to obtain a copy of your discharge as proof that all dischargeable debts have been cleared. You can get a copy of your discharge by contacting the clerk's office of the United States Bankruptcy Court of the District of Minnesota. Check your credit report three months after your bankruptcy is complete to make sure all discharged debt has been removed. If it has not been removed, you can give the discharge report to the credit reporting agencies so they can correct the error.
